Could be a lot of fun to write and for the audience. The setup makes sense. Good character goals and obstacles. What is the climax (how does PP2 connect with the ending that you wrote)? Perhaps you can shift things along the paradigm. The decision will depend on how much screen time you want to spend with the first bird, or the second bird.
For example, PP1 could be deciding to babysit the bird, and the MP could be killing the bird. Or, as you have it, PP1 is killing the bird, and perhaps the MP is acquiring the new bird.
But also, you’ll need to clarify why Venessa seems to forgive him about killing the first bird. I assume that will be explained in the climax. A character bio for both Henry and Venessa might help
