To me, inclusion means incorporating and giving people access to opportunities and experiences despite differences. Collusion is to exclude and cheat others and not give them opportunities. Inclusion and accessibility can make an immense difference in a student with exceptionalities, it can help them succeed and have a better quality of life. When you exclude students with exceptionalities they can feel less about themself and they are less likely to succeed. It can impact us by making us not as good of people and not as open-minded when we exclude people. In order to be more inclusive, we have to have empathy and be understanding of those with exceptionalities.
I agree with your point in that excluding others can make us close minded to other people that are different, and that understanding is the way to be more inclusive.
Understanding is the way to be more inclusive. How might you go about this? BE specific in your thoughts. What might you do to include others? It takes action; understanding, yes! Also action. We must reach out to those we do not understand. Why don't we naturally do this? I believe that we are afraid. We are drawn to those who make our lives easier---those who act like us, dress like us, speak like us. BUT what is there to learn?
Yes, inclusion is vital to those with disabilities. These students should have the same opportunities that all other students have. Inclusion allows students with exceptionalities access to academics but also social, emotional, and all other areas of growth. How can we work toward inclusive behaviors? What must we do? It's so easy to be drawn to others like us and exclude others!
