In chapters 1-3 Bogle talks about Early films with all African American casts. During the time of early cinema it was very unusual and controversial to have a complete non white cast. People not of color went to see these films which gained publicity and provided income for the African American actors and the industry. African Americans were discriminated against throughout the beginning of cinema and to see films where they made up the sole cast was a major breakthrough for equality. All though the implementation of all African American films into the mainstream is great for the black culture and a benefactor in the end of inequality, it also proposed the idea of more hate from whitw people.
White people in these times saw all African American films as jokes, or stupid insignificant films with little meaning. Most films with these types of casts were not taken seriously by the whitew crowds. If they weren't seen as meaningless comedies they were boycotted and hated. Another con is that the African Americans in the films were painted as stupid or as evil. Although there are some pros to having an all African American cast in these times, there are more cons because of how African Americans were exploited by the white man. These examples provide clear evidence that racism is taught not inherited.
