1.     Devil in a Blue Dress was honestly one of the best movies we have seen in this class so far. The gritty film noir starring Denzel Washington was a gripping mystery which glued me to my seat the second Denzel started narrating the first scene. The dialogue I believed matched up perfectly with the setting it was in, and I often found myself laughing especially at what Don Cheadle’s character Mouse would say. Mouse was easily my favorite character, and my only complaint is that he wasn’t in it longer. I like how the incident between Mouse and Easy wasn’t fully explained in the story and it was a rather mysterious matter that left you asking questions. I like this issue having little or no explanation because it keeps up with the feeling of mystery this noir thriller offers. Denzel’s performance is amazing, and he kills it as usual, but I think Tom Sizemore is the best performance because he steals every scene that he’s in. His charming and often psychopathic tendencies really show how menacing and manipulative of a character he is and shows the true dangers Easy is getting himself into throughout this movie. Overall, I really love this movie and I think I need to rewatch it again at some point to really appreciate all the performances that were given.

Glad you like it. It was the first time I had seen it in 20 years, and I agree with you. But for these responses, I'd like you to elaborate on the film's place in the bigger picture of African American cinema. Imagine yourself in a 1990s audience. What is significant about this film? This director? How does it fit into Denzel's career?
