A black female actress that caught my eye was Angela Bassett. One reason that Angela Bassett caught my eye was her difference from both black actresses and actors. In her career she starred in roles that boosted her as more of a super star than an activist. She was seen by African Americans as just another super star, not a voice of change, unlike actresses like Halle Berry. This separated her from her African American male actor counterparts like Gioncarlo Esposito and Denzel Washington. These actors played in roles which boosted the African American voice; roles that implemented change in the community and society as a whole.

One thing from the readings that I also found interesting was the case of Whitney Houston. Whitney Houston was a pop star who turned into an actress. Her acting career was made big with her 1992 film The Bodyguard which her and her co-star Kevin Costner were in an interracial marrige. This movie boosted her career and also made a major breakthrough in the racial divide. Shwe went on to star in critically acclaimed films that had strong messages. Her career change from singer to actor really struck me as interesting because most actors/ actresses that endure the change from music to theater don’t alway prevail. The fact that she was African American American and starred in films that made  a change in the black community was very interesting to me.

definitely two important figures in this time period. But I'd like for your responses to be a little more personal.
