The film Devil in a Blue Dress was an interesting film due to the wide range of acting from all the actors. Each had a unique attack on their character's personalities and reactions. It was interesting to watch the movie after reading the first half of the textbook; the text claimed that movies became grittier and more hyper focused on the hardships of the African American community, especially contemporary issues such as police violence and drugs. The film didn't really do that, instead choosing to explore the story of a private detective in the 40's. The movie reminded me of the In the Heat of the Night in its exploration of race in a more dated time.

Glad you like the film and are thinking about it in terms of Bogle's chapters and the bigger picture of African American cinema. But elaborate. This response is too short (I ask you to give at least 200 words).
