This movie was really thought provoking. Both comedic at times and incredibly tragic at its conclusion, it was not what I was expecting when I read about the film in the text book. I was shocked that this was Kimberly Elise's feature debut, as her performance was incredible. The scene where she lost her son brought tears to my eyes. It covered a lot of issues that are still very relevant to this day; the police violence element really comes to mind, as it still occurs and is hotly debated over 25 years later. Also shockingly relevant is Frankie's firing, as she is essentially racially profiled just because she recognizes the perpetrator, and is blamed for the robbery. Though in hindsight it's not surprising, I was shocked when Pinkett Smith's character was the last one surviving. I feel like this is a really good and powerful film about desperate choices, but there were some moments that just had me scratching my head. The main example of this was that bizarre sex scene with all the oil. WHY so much oil??? I also feel as though the more comedic tone of the first bank robbery was really jarring as we just came from a really dark, low point in the women's lives. This film got generally positive reviews when it released, and I feel like it holds up. I could see myself recommending this or watching again.

well said. I agree it's a good film that holds up mostly, even if I wasn't too happy with the ending.
