Love and Basketball was a great film to watch. I really liked it because it showed a beautiful relationship between two black athletes, which isn’t shown much in film. I think that it was a really important film especially for Gina Prince Bythewood, the Director. This movie is definitely one of my favorites because as a child I watched it with my mom, and it’s one of her favorite movies as well. Although the father cheated on his wife, I think he still taught Quincy a lot of good lessons, especially on being a man of substance. As a kid I always watched black movies to find lessons that related to people who were like me. I found that most of these movies carried lessons within them, that were not only important to the characters but to the audience who was watching as well. During this film there were several of those lessons that I found to relate to me. One of them being that just because a parent does something wrong or steps out on the family does not mean all of the lessons that parent has taught should be invalidated. I think Quincy’s father was a very respectable man, and he held him to a very high standard. However when he loss that sense of respect for his idol is when his life started going the opposite way of what he wanted for himself.
