. the potential controversy regarding denzel washington in training day was the fact that the character that he was playing is a “villian” and that was his first time playing a role of that nature. in that time period it was weird because some may have actually try to view him as that type of person and ruin his career. I read articles and in an article i read that while “training day” was being casted the The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People( NAACP) urged Denzel not to play this role because people felt that it was a very dangerous thing to do at the time of his career which was playing a dirty cop.due to it being the early 2000s late 90’s it was still hard to excel in the acting career. Similar to Halle Berry , Halle’s team didn't approve of her oscar winning scene in Monsters ball, in fact a lot of famous black actresses turned down the role such as Angela Basset and Vanessa Williams. Most woman turned down the scene because they didn't agree with the sex scene and that it was alot of racist cast and scenes in the movie. I guess Halle didn't care about this or more so cared more about her career. Halle said her team did not support her when she accepted the job. Angela Basset mention that she didnt accept the job because she did not want to be a prostitute on stage and i could understand that alot of woman felt that way especially since its would most likely be one of their first times on the Camera and they didnt want their first scenes to be sex scenes and get their career off to the wrong start.critics were outraged by Tyler Perry simply cause he claimed to beheterosexual man in a dress. This outraged people simply due to the time and day that he started, Madea was one of the first movies where a black man openly gets in a dress for his humor, due to tyler perry writing his own movies , critics assumed he was homosexual or etc and it was a big buzz black men didnt agree with the fact that he played the role himself but it never bothered Tyler Perry.
