Get Out Response
After watching Get Out for the first time I remember distinctly being shocked at how well the movie was written. This was probably the first time I had got to see the perspective of somebody who is the only African American among a lot of white people. I had never thought how that could make someone feel uncomfortable, but this movie helped made that image crystal clear. The way that the Rose, the main characters significant other, and her family would act around Chris, leading up to the climax was truly chilling. I also notice just how insensitive some of Rose’s family members were towards Chris. They would make comments that made him feel uncomfortable, to the point where he would have to step away from everybody and call his friend just to get away from it all. Another thing I found interesting was Chris was not the first victim of this family, they have been luring African American men to that house using Rose for a while all just so they could have the physical specimen of a black male. Overall I thought this movie was fantastic, the combination of thrill and some light comedy was amazing. And I had never seen a concept like this in any film before, making Get Out a memorable watch.
