If Beale Street Could Talk
If Beale Street Could Talk was a beautiful film. The cinematography was gorgeous throughout the whole film. The lighting was one of my favorite things about this film. The scenes in the jail were most visually stimulating for me mostly because Fonny’s background was bright and yellow despite his situation being the complete opposite. On Trish’s side, the background was blue and occasionally dark. This noticeable difference brought upon one thought in my mind. Fonny, though being the most affected by the lie, tried his best to put on a brave face in front of Trish in order not to worry her. Trish is blue because when she visits Fonny she has bad news. I also noticed that throughout most of the film when there were serious tones there was always light in the background. During Fonny’s scene in his cell, the lighting was blue yet the light from the window signifies hope. The ending of the film completely justifies this. The ending gives the audience satisfaction by letting them know that Fonny will be getting released. The lighting of the final scene also justifies this notion. There is no hint of blue lighting near the small family.
