My first reaction to this film was excitement due to the fact of my experience of the first movie being as amazing as it was, but to be completely honest I was very disappointed. I felt that the movie ended three different times and that a lot of things could have been taken out plot wise. My general experience In a marvel movie revolves around the villain of the film and in this movies case I did not like it at all the only cool part of the villain was the place of origin and the aztec culture behind it but other than that in my most scholarly term I would say it was “stupid”. I understand the purpose of this film was to set up for something else but I am so tired of “filler” movies that are basically just a big information dump with some sort of battle wedged in there while also killing off an important character to give the movie more meaning. I have also recently learned what afro-futurism is and I can see that a lot in the Black Panther movies in general being that it revolves around a country that has a lot of ancient rituals but also has next generation technology. I also find Martin Freeman's character Agent Ross very strange. It seems they kept him in the film as a sympathetic white man to appeal to white audiences even though he was barely in the movie it made it feel forced.
Interesting observations in those last two sentences. I'd like to hear more about your thoughts. Still haven't seen the film myself but I plan to simply so I can be conversant.
