Good and Bad Sleep Habits

Good and Bad Sleep Habits

I tend to follow the same routine when winding down for the night. I brush my teeth/ wash my face and then set my alarm. I'll usually chill in the living room with my roommates until I'm tired and then go to bed from there. I try not to be on my phone once I get in bed and to just try to go to sleep immediately rather than scrolling forever. I also don't do anything in my bed but sleep which helps my mindset in that area that I don't associate it with homework or studying.

At home I would read in bed until I was sleepy, but I don't do that much when I'm in my apartment at school because I don't want to leave the light on and keep my roommate up. I could get a small light for reading though since this class has made me consider changing up my routine.

On a night when I'm following a bad routine I may scroll on TikTok or Instagram for a while. That is always tempting, but I know it takes me longer to fall asleep when I do that, so I try to avoid it.

Leah, I also follow a similar routine by washing my face, brushing my teeth, and taking a 5-10 minute warm shower to get myself ready for bed. Since I do not share a room with a roommate I usually spend an hour or two in my bed with the light on reading, but then that is typically followed by another hour scrolling on Tiktock, Instagram, or replying to my friends on Snapchat which we have learned is unhealthy. I hope to eventually stop this bad habit and just stick to reading in my bed until I am tired and get off social media to better my sleep routine.
