The reason psychology is more powerful is that appealing to someone’s subconscious is stronger than appealing to their conscious self. Tapping into the conscious mind is easy, and that part of the mind can often rationalize whether or not they truly want something. Tapping into the subconscious makes the subject believe they decided on their own, and the subconscious drive is much more powerful than any conscious drive. I feel appealing to the subconscious drive is the most powerful, however, appealing to investments and fantasies also works because it tricks the conscious mind. If you are told something will be a certain way if you purchase it, you will buy it because your wants and dreams are being manipulated. If I have a preconceived notion about myself, all it takes is some commercial to back it up, and immediately I’m drawn to that product. I feel like that’s how marketing works for any person. It’s a play on the irrational impulses of people.
