- Required text: Lewis Lockwood, Beethoven's Symphonies: An Artistic Vision. New York: W. W. Norton, 2015.
- Required listening: All students should purchase online the entire "Beethoven Symphonies" conducted by Christian Thielemann with the Wiener Philharmoniker (Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra) which is available on ITunes, and doubtless on other music apps. While there are many good performances available, it would be best if we could all work from the same performances for consistency this month.
