By the end of this course I will be able to describe various methodologies in IA, give examples of currentresearch in IA, use the basic functionality of the MatLAB software.

  1. ABCD of your learning outcomes

Let me start by stating that learning objectives is a place where I'm really trying to improve so my comments are likely inaccurate.

    Audience: student

Behavior: 1. describe, 2. give examples, 3. use
    Conditions: end of course
Degree: 1. vague, 2. current research, 3. basic functionality

Perhaps, using different terms from Bloom's taxonomy would make the learning objectives stronger. How many methodologies? How much current research? I think it will be difficult to measure these without qualifying them.

  2. Learning Outcomes
I'm always struggling with measuring learning outcomes.  These are the ones I've used for this class in the past:

    ·       Explain threshold definitions for accident, emergency, disaster, and catastrophe.

    ·       Elaborate upon the concepts of human security and safe communities.

    ·       Distinguish between environmental hazards and urban social risks and understand how they may interact.

    ·       Analyze the politics of vulnerability, disaster management, and risk reduction.

    ·       Identify trends in urbanization, demographics, and climate change.

    ·       Access information resources for identifying hazards and reducing risks.

    ·       Employ the tools—identification, mapping, information systems—required to assess urban risks.

    ·       Become familiar with potential career tracks and the required education and training.

  3. Describe?
I would replace "describe" with "compare" or "distinguish."  But I understand you are building knowledge and application throughout the semester.
  4. Distinguish between environmental hazards and urban social risks and understand how they may interact.

Behavior: "distinguish" (strong) and "understand" (vague)
