writing reinforcement

When teaching writing reinforcement classes, I have students write "twitter theses." That is, they have to create a thesis in 240 characters or less. Their thesis also has to include various elements of a "good" thesis that we have already discussed in class. I don't grade their first attempt. Instead, I make comments on their first attempt, have them revise--taking into consideration my comments--and then I give them a grade based on their revisions.

  1. Response to "writing reinforcement"
I like the idea of students having a chance to understand their mistakes. I think this will give them the confidence they need to execute their ideas in a creative manner.  With this being said, I think that your strategy provides the momentum they need to continue to build upon their skill set.
  2. Thesis statements
Do you have  a handout about what a good thesis statement is, or do you generate that as a class?
