Copyrights

One issue with copyright is that even if a creator has rights to legal action against an infringer, it may be too expensive for the individual to take action. This could be due to the complexity of the law or the high cost of a lawyer. A possibility is to have copyright lawyers, that handle smaller cases, provided by the U.S. Copyright Office.

I like the idea of copyright lawyers provided; however, I know some lawyers are not willing to work for a cheaper price unless he/she personally benefits from the case.

I agree with Saydee on the hoops some lawyers will not jump through due to the price being low. I like the idea of the legal steps being taken but do not always see it being done.

Christopher, I see this as an issue with the way in which the criminal justice system operates in America. Clearly, it is not functional if even the smallest of cases cannot be fulfilled due to unnecessary expenses. This situation makes me think of the universal design principles -- if something is not designed to be accessible to everyone, then it is not a successful design. Most facets of the US government have been designed for the average user, which directly opposes most schools of thought regarding design and functionality. We must design with all users in mind, not just the average user. If this were not an issue in US courts, then copyright laws and rights could be upheld.
