  1. Re: Question 2
I hate to say it, but I wasn't surprised. Big companies usually have bad reputations and a lust for money. I was a little surprised, however, when Purdue Pharma kept denying how addictive OxyContin was after overdose rates were skyrocketing and there were countless pieces of evidence proving how addictive the drug actually was. The commercials they showed by Purdue Pharma from the 80s were a little humorous to me for that exact reason: they were blatantly denying the drug's actual effects. It just goes to show the lengths some people will go to--and the lives they're willing to risk--to get money.

  2. Response to Maria Potts
I agree with Maria. I wasn't surprised how manipulative Purdue Pharma was, in relation to selling the drug OxyContin. However, I agree with her statement about denying the effects of the drug. People DO go to crazy lengths for money.
  3. Question 2
I definitely agree with Maria, the world we live in is very money driven and I also referenced it in question 1. Money is an addiction to people no matter what their cost is to getting the money, even if that cost is a human life.
  4. Question two
It really did not surprise me what Purdue Pharma was doing with all the money they were getting from OxyContin there was a high demand for it and they were profiting a lot from it. They knew that it was extremely addictive but they did not care because it was bring in a lot of money. And the sales rep knew this to. The one in the documentary  he said that no one was stupid they all knew what they were doing, and it is sad that just because of greed thousands of people’s lives were ruined.

It is surprising the lengths that people go to for money. It's also sad to see medicine hurting and killing people that it was supposed to help. The fact that people were profiting off the deaths of others is truly evil and disturbing.
  6. Purdue Pharma
Wow, you all are way more cynical than I was at your age.   But, that is probably a good thing.  It is good to be skeptical, especially when it comes to big corporations and even the government.  Stay informed and make your voice heard when you have a chance!
  7. Prudue Pharma
I think that Prudue Pharma were incredibly evil. The desire for money at the risk of humans lives is a sad commentary for the very people who claim to be making medicine to help people to live less painful lives. I was even disgusted by the rep who was pretty honest about his part in the overall scheme. His honesty did not make me feel sorry for him.
  8. Question 2
I think Purdue Pharma was not concerned with the well-being of the customers. I believe they were just trying to market to doctors that their product was less addictive. It was a marketing strategy and it worked. The drug reps were told to tell doctors that their product was proven to be less addictive than the typical opiate. It had some additive in it that made it believable. Purdue Pharma was doing what they had to do to maximize their profits which is what most big businesses do. What they did worked because it caused a huge epidemic of citizens becoming addicted to their product. I also don't believe that was their goal to ruin people's lives. I do not think they even realized or took into consideration what their drug could do to society.
