Reading Summaries and Reading Guides
This summer I will be teaching an introduction to music course. While I can provide video lectures and readings, the bigger question is often if they are doing the readings, do they know what to look for, do they know basic facts, and then can they ultimately use this information critically to inform their understanding of music, music history, and their musical experiences as an audience member. I find that assessment in the form of reading guides and summaries are good at directing students to these areas and help me to model the expectations to the students and to see if students are assembling the skills they need.
