My students are often so focused on the grade they receive on assignments that they pay little attention to the descriptive feedback I give them. For lesson planning assignments, I’ve adopted the practice of giving feedback on the plan based on the grading rubric but WITHOUT a numeric grade. Students then have the opportunity to revise their plans based on the feedback, I’ve given and then I assign a grade.

Formative: I use 2-3 question Moodle Quizzes we call WarmUps. They are to be done after the reading for the upcoming class and they are due the evening before the class. The questions are usually a blend of an explanation, a computation, and multiple choice. It shows us where the understanding of each student is so we can focus on misunderstandings from the readings.

Summative: Exams, not much to say hear we all know how exams are.
