If I have to pick a “fear”, I am drawn to the slasher and psychological horror films. Slashers are basically serial killers and I enjoy watching true crime stories and documentaries on serial killers. You get to learn more about the “monster” either through a backstory that leads to their becoming a monster or the explanation that they were born evil. You learn more about what drives them to kill, who they target, and what triggers them. I enjoy psychological films because I feel more involved as I’m trying to figure out what the outcome is going to be. I watch in anticipation of the ending to see if I figured it out. When I get it right, it feels like a sense of accomplishment. If I’m not correct, I’m shocked by the twist and still consider that a good film.

The realistic horror films such as the "Slasher" films or "Cult" film are the movies that scare me the most because they actually happen in real life. Although the stories are mostly fictitious in films they still are very real in the sense of serial killers and dangerous cults being real.

I have always been drawn to fear with supernatural elements. I love horror stories that feel like a folktale that has been passed down. I love stories that when after you watch them you think "this can't be real", but in the back of your mind you questioning that

My favorite type of fear is a symbolic type of fear. It is some type of trauma or anxiety that exists in someone's life that manifests itself in a supernatural way. This is my favorite because it can be really scary but also holds poetic value and gives greater depth to the story and characters.

Supernatural fear in movies has always been one of my favorite genres of horror films. The anticipation being built up by the suspenseful music, only to lead up to nothing happening then....boom, out comes a little girl without a face jumping at the screen. I love the way these movies make you feel your body temp rise and sitting on the edge of your seat trying to figure out what will go on next. I love the feeling of chills in the movie theater as a demon stands down the hall of a dark hospital then disappears, leaving us wondering what is going to happen.
