I will be interning with a nonprofit organization called McCoy Adult Day Care. It is located right down the street at McCoy United Methodist Church. McCoy Adult Day Care is a nonprofit organization that works with adults who need to be cared for and supervised in a protective setting. They offer health screenings, therapeutic activities, and exercise. They opened their doors in June of 1985 by The McCoy United Methodist Church.

My project consists of running the social media side of their organization. I am in charge of making posts updating the community on activities and fundraisers that are going on. I also will be doing some cold calling, reaching out to donors as well as promoting some of their programs.

This project is important to this organization, because they are trying to increase their presence on social media, as well as getting more money in order to sponsor adults during the current pandemic.

Have you thought of any creative things that you can post on the social media accounts, such as different gifs or diagrams/videos/specific pictures that will catch ones eye as they scroll? I find it interesting that you will also be reaching out to donors as well, as you could potentially use social media to thank them for the support that they are giving the McCoy Adult Daycare. Is your focus in marketing? How would you promote the social media pages?

Using social media to thank donors is a great idea! Donors want to see what they made possible, so showing a program in action with a big thank you is spot on. Even better is having a participant write or say a few sentences about what they love about McCoy.

Are there any social media campaigns you have in mind to get people more involved with the organization? Would love to know how you think the current circumstances of Covid-19 will impact your ability to access current pictures and events that they have going on since the internship will be remote. Do you think this will be an added challenge?

Aliya, this sounds like a really unique opportunity. I had no idea that this resource was right outside of campus. I think it is really neat that this facility offers such holistic care. Specifically, I think it is cool that they do health screenings, as I can imagine that it might be difficult for the adults to clearly express any issues that may be experiencing. Do they accept volunteers, and if so, is there training required?

Can you describe the population McCoy serves in a little more detail? Income, race, age, reason(s) they need care? Do they pay to attend, is the cost covered by insurance, or is everything donor-supported?
