Field Ecology (yup, you heard that right)

Hi, all. I have the honor and challenge of teaching directed research in field biology online this summer. Summer is a great time to teach field biology in person, but we have a need for it no matter what, so I'll be giving it a shot online this summer. I hope this online training course will magically turn my scant ideas into the best field learning experience these students could ever have. Then again, I also hope to wake up tomorrow morning 20 years younger.

I'm Elizabeth, and I adjunct in the English department. I'm not scheduled to teach an online course, but I'd love to learn skills and strategies to prepare me to do so in the future. I'm shamefully late, but hope to get through as much of the course as I can!

Introduction - Brandon Brown

Hello everyone, my name is Brandon Brown and I currently serve as the assistant director of residence life at BSC. I have been working in housing for over 8 years. I am currently working on my doctorate in education at Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville, TN. I completed my master's degree in Educational Leadership at the University of South Alabama and my bachelor's degree in English from Middle Tennessee State Univesity. I was born in Louisville, KY, but I grew up in Memphis, TN with my older brother and twin sister. I enjoy traveling with my wife Jessica and visiting friends and family. Additionally, I enjoy cooking and binge-watching tv shows. As I have taken many online courses, I am interested in learning more about developing online courses and coursework to better serve students.

Alexandria Croom: How Did I Get Here?

I love my job as the instructional designer/ technologist at Birmingham-Southern but I am still somewhat new to the field. I studied math at Howard University and earned a master's degree in instructional design and technology at Samford University.

I have an interesting background that includes teaching middle school math, serving as a nonprofit program director, training high school teachers, and managing an IT scholarship program at UAB.  What I think ties all of these things together is my love for education and problem-solving. Each role has given me the opportunity to develop creative solutions to what I believe are meaningful questions.
