Proposal

As a child that was adopted from China into a white family that was brought up in a heavily white community, I have recently come to the realization that I have experienced a lot of unacknowledged racism and been the victim of unrecognized microaggressions. Through my paper, I would like to explore the idea that international adoption often leads to unrecognized microaggressions and ignoring racist acts and words. I will particularly focus on Chinese adoptions. Also, I plan to try to link the influence that the Chinese child policy has on Chinese adoption.

Here is a very rough outline of my paper.

I.               Define Microaggressions

II.              Give example of Macroaggressions

III.            How Adoptees tend to respond

IV.            How Parents or siblings respond

V.             Link it to Chinese child policy influences

I know you said that you wanted another bibliography source, but I have created two surveys that will be a huge source for me and I wasn’t sure how to cite that. I have created one survey for my friends that are also adopted to sent it to them for their perspectives and the second survey is one for the parents or step-parents of adoptees.
