Monday Reading Questions
Harris, The New Testament,
1. What did Jews in the first century CE think that a messiah would do and be like? What expectations did they have for a messiah? Why, according to their expectations and worldview, was it impossible that Jesus was the messiah that they were waiting for?
2. Given that Jesus does not fit Jewish expectations for a messiah, what is the messianic "revision" that Jesus's disciples argue to make their case that Jesus was in fact the messiah. That is, how do they revise what being a messiah means and how do they say that Jesus fits that new definition?
Wilken, chapter 2
1. Who were the leaders of earliest Christianity and what was the nature of the first major dispute among them?
This lesson is not ready to be taken.
