As you read Samantha Grindell's essay from SAR consider these issues:- How does it work? What does it say?

1. Title-How does it work? What does it say?

2. Topic- What is the topic?

3. Thesis. Where is the Thesis explicitly stated and what is it?

4. What audience has the author selected- How does that affect reminders and explanations?

5. What Conversations are hinted at? What conversation is joined?

6. The use of anecdotal and statistical evidence- Downshifting to details and examples.

7. Direct Quotation and close paraphrase.

8. The Transition between introduction and body, between paragraphs, and to conclusion.

9. Logic used for argument: Evidence, theory,  speculation, assumptions.

10. Conclusion_ how does it fit logically? What is its direct connection to title, topic, and Thesis.
