Tutorial
Prior to every lab, you should complete the pre-lab lesson in Moodle. In the pre-lab lesson you will get the Tutorial demonstration question, the demonstration video, the tutorial assignment (due every Monday at 5:00 pm). In the video, the instructor will first work through a demonstration problem as the students observe. You should be attentive, follow carefully, and take thorough notes. In particular, you should pay attention to how the instructor monitors the work and continually assesses it. In the end, you will be given a transcript of the solution, but this does not lessen the importance of taking good notes yourself! The path taken to solving a problem is what’s truly essential. The answer is only one detail.
For the tutorial assignment, your goal is to follow the general approach modeled by the instructor in the video, not simply reproduce the solution in a slightly different context. Interacting with your classmates is encouraged! Your complete solution will be due the following Monday afternoon at 5:00 p.m. on Moodle, so take your time to work carefully.
Presentation is a key aspect on which your work will be assessed. The purpose is not simply that the grader can understand your work. Rather, it’s that you learn to document your thoughts in a way that will actually facilitate solving problems. Accordingly, your work will be graded according to a rubric that takes into account presentation and communication, as well as mathematical manipulations. That grading rubric will be provided to guide you at the start of the session.
IMPORTANT: On exam weeks, there will be no laboratory exercise, but the tutorial will still be held during the first hour of that period.
